A Note From Mrs. Phillips

So much going on these next few weeks.  We need to not forget the reason we have so many wonderful things to do and attend, which is the coming of our Lord.  The light of our lives.  As we celebrate Advent in the classroom, we will keep his light in side our hearts.

Please join us for the P.E. presentation in Neglia Hall on Thursday at 12:45!

The auction committee has asked for our class to provide items, just like last year, for a basket which will be auctioned off.  Our theme this year is movies!  There will be a note in Tuesday folders with more information.  Feel free to send in items at any time this week.

Religion: In religion this week, we will discuss Advent and what it means to us.  Our class was chosen to lead part of the Advent celebration for the school.  You might have heard them practicing a song this past weekend.  They wrote that!  We will also learn about the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and celebrate this mass on Friday at noon with the school.

Reading: The class will begin the novel “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” this week.  What a wonderful book that combines both our reading lessons and out Advent studies.  It is not the most reverent book (on purpose), but I assure you, the true meaning of what the author accomplishes is beautiful.  The students will have spelling words that will be for both this week and next.  Our test will be next Friday, December 15th.  STAR homework due this Friday.

Language Arts:   The students will continue possessive nouns this week.  There are so many to learn and practice.  I truly want to be sure the students understand this concept.  See Reading above for spelling note.

Math:  The class is doing a marvelous job with our multiplication.   We will complete our four’s this week and continue to test each day.  Math homework will consist of the packet sent home nightly.   Please keep this packet in the binders as we will also use the packet in class.  Please continue to use the xtramath.com website for basic fact practice each week.  I only ask for 2 nights, however your child can use this site each day for more practice.

Science: In science the students will continue climates around the world.  We will focus on each climate more in depth and complete reading comprehensions based on these climates.

Social Studies:  The students will finish the branches of our government and test on Thursday.
