A Note From Mrs. Phillips

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break!  Only eight more weeks to learn and they will be packed with spelling, writing, experimenting, exploring, and creating.  These next few weeks may seem eventful, and your children will start to grow impatient at times.  Thank you spring fever!  But, we mustn’t lose focus that we still have quite a bit to accomplish and I need your help.  Your help to ensure your child is getting enough sleep, eating good meals, and getting outside to play.  With these things at home, I know each child will be ready to tackle everything we need to finish in the next few weeks.

In class this week…

Religion: In religion this week, we will discuss the Divine Mercy.  The students will explore what this means to them while we look into how the Divine Mercy is part of our faith.

Reading: April is poetry month!  The class will spend this month exploring different types of poetry both written and them writing themselves.  We will begin this week by looking at Shel Silverstein and his poetry style.

Language Arts:   The students will continue adjectives this week and put them to use while creating poems.  We will have spelling, spelling STAR homework, and the test will be this Friday.

Math:  The class will continue with fractions in their math groups.  All three groups will work with equivalent fractions and each group will be told when their quiz will be based on how they accomplish their goals.  Be on the lookout in assignment books for the date.

Science: In science the students will begin to learn about inherited traits and what traits are produced from the environment.  We will look at what a trait is and how we get them.

Social Studies:  The students will continue explorers this week with Hilton and Woodward.  We are keeping our study guides in our binders to review each night.  We will also discuss how are Catholic faith played a part in creating South Carolina.
