A Note From Mrs. Marsha

What a beautiful weekend to begin the month of December! For the next 2 1/2 weeks we will learn that Advent is a time to get ready to celebrate Jesus’ birth. The students will learn how to prepare themselves to welcome Jesus into their hearts and give thanks to God- the true meaning of Christmas! On Friday we will be going to the Kroger Center for the performance of Twas the Night Before Christmas. Please be at school by 8 a.m. 🙂 We will also be attending Mass at noon to celebrate the Feast of Immaculate Conception, please have your child in their dress uniform.

In Class This Week

Religion- The students will learn about Advent on the liturgical calendar and how we prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ birthday. 

 

Language Arts- The students will:

The students will practice spelling words: grill, slip, slam, skip, spin, clip, clap, flip, plan

The students will practice high frequency words: animal, how, why, of, some, make

Phonics skill: short I, a, and beginning blends

Comprehension: Main idea and key details, ask and answer questions using pictures, reading for fluency

Grammar: using commas in a series, elaboration of sentences using adjectives

Writing: I can write a letter

Math: The students will be solving addition and subtraction word stories using a number bond and identifying and applying fact families.

Vocabulary- Fact Family

Social Studies: The students will explain the concept of scarcity and the way it effects goods and services

Homework:

Monday- Spelling 3x each

Tuesday- Subtraction fluency

Wednesday- ABC order spelling

Thursday- Fact families

*Leveled Reader every night

December 8th- Kroger Center, Twas the Night Before Christmas, 8-11 *Noon Mass, dress uniform required

December 11th- 2 p.m. Dismissal

December 14th- Christmas music program, 7-8p.m. in the St. Peter’s Church

December 20th-January 3rd- Christmas holiday
