A Note From Mrs. Phillips

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16  There is no better day to celebrate God’s love than on Valentine’s Day, when we show the world how much we love each other.  It just so happens, that on this day, this year, we also celebrate a time when Jesus showed us how much he loved us, by beginning the journey where he ultimately would give his own life.  As these two days collide, it is hard not to think of the overwhelming feeling of love.  Let this love shine this week.

In class this week…

Religion: In religion this week, we will learn about St. Valentine and what Ash Wednesday means.  We will begin our journey through Lent and discuss how each of us can make Lent personal.

Reading: The class is well into our novel study- “Little House on the Prairie”.  We will continue to learn about Laura and complete comprehension questions based on each chapter.  The students had a visit from Laura and Mary themselves!  Well, in doll form.  They loved seeing how these two dressed up close.  This week, we will work on retelling parts of the story.  Check out http://littlehouseontheprairie.com/ for more great facts and stories.

Language Arts:   The students will have spelling words that go along with “Little House on the Prairie” this week and the test is Friday, February 23rd.  We will work on past, present, and future tenses this week.

Math:  The class will begin our 9’s this week and I will continue to test each student.  The weekly math packets will still be due on Tuesday of next week, but we will no longer be using them in class.  The class did GREAT starting division!  We will continue practicing this concept this week.

Science: In science the students will continue plant life cycles.  We will use our school surroundings this week to make many observations and plant our hyacinth bulb.  Quiz on plant life cycles on Wednesday.

Social Studies:  The students will continue learning more in depth about the Catawba, and Yemassee Indians as we complete our study guides.
