A Note From Mrs. Roy
We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week. I hope that your child understands how fortunate he or she is to be learning in a faith-filled community. It’s truly a gift from God and one that he or she will benefit from for the rest of their lives. It’s always nice to take a step back and really stop to appreciate our gifts, such as St. Peter’s.
In Class This Week
Grammar: We will begin our new unit on Pronouns this week. We will start with the basics, including personal pronouns and singular and plural pronouns.
Spelling: Our spelling words will include words from the roots “port” and “form.” There are 16 now, since we are in Quarter 3. The test will be on Friday, and we will practice these words together throughout the week. The list can be found here.
Reading: We are going to finish novel, Charlotte’s Web, this week. We will also practice some of our reading skills, such as the main idea, cause and effect, and characterization. We’ve really enjoyed this book.
Religion: This week, we will continue to learn about the Church. We will read and discuss the Parable of the Talents, and then we will learn about mortal and venial sin.
Science: We’re starting our new unit this week – light as energy. Our focus this week will be on the anatomy of the eye. We will learn each major part of the eye, along with its function. There will be a quiz on Thursday to label the parts of the eye.
5th Grade Grammar/Writing: We will spend the week continuing to work on our creative writing assignment. Each student is writing a comic book that includes appropriate dialogue, plot, characters, and setting. We will then move on to our next unit on verbs.
6th Grade Grammar/ Writing: We have started our new unit on adjectives. This will be a fairly short unit. Our focus this week will be on comparative and superlative adjectives and their various uses.
