A Note From Ms. Gurn
The most anticipated week of fifth grade is upon us! It is Starbase week. Please make sure your child is on time, as we will be leaving promptly at 8:15 am each morning to McEntire Air Force Base. This week, your children will be immersed in Science, Engineering, Technology and Math lessons. The Starbase instructors will come to the school on Friday rather than us going to the base. This is the day we will launch our rockets! Please make sure your child brings an easy lunch to eat during the day. Since this field trip takes up the whole day, regular instruction will be paused until the following week. We will continue to read our novel, Because of Mr. Terupt if we return to the school early a few days. I hope to fit in short 30 minute lessons at the end of the day.
This Week In Class
Reading/Writing Workshop: We will continue to read our novel, Because of Mr. Terupt. We will learn how to find main ideas of chapters.
Spelling Words: NO SPELLING WORDS THIS WEEK. A new list will be added next week after Starbase.
Science: This week the students will be conducting chemistry experiments, learning about flight, engineering, computer aided design, mapping coordinates, and MORE. I can’t wait to share photos of all of these interactive lessons from our field trip. Watch a Starbase video below!
Social Studies: Next week, we will start a new unit on the 1920’s. We will discuss the new role of women, the Prohibition era, and immigration.
