A Note From Mrs. Roy
It’s hard to believe that we are starting to wind down the school year. It truly flew by! We will still be learning lots this week and continuing to grow. I really urge all students to finish the year out strong! It can be hard, but they are all capable of excellent work.
On Thursday evening, we will have our Spring Music Concert. The students have been working very hard on this. We are looking forward to a great show. It will take place at 7pm at the USC Band Hall. Students should be there at 6:30pm.
In Class This Week
Grammar: We will wrap up studying verbs this week. We will look at various simple tenses, along with subject-verb agreement within a sentence.
Spelling: Our last spelling test of the year will be on Friday. These words will be the same as our vocabulary words; they come from the last eight chapters of The Watsons Go to Birmingham. The test will be on Friday; the list can be found here.
Reading:We are going to work on a cumulative project to finish up The Watsons Go to Birmingham. Each student will have a choice of what he or she would like to do; the work for this project will be done in class. There will also be some writing taking place this week as a follow up to our zoo field trip. Students will be writing a persuasive essay with appropriate support.
Religion: We are going to spend our final few weeks studying Mary, the Blessed Virgin Mother. May is a month in which we celebrate Mary, so the timing is perfect!
Science: We will focus on the basics of force, motion, and work this week. We will specifically focus on the various types of forces, along with applied force (push vs. pull).
5thGrade Grammar/Writing: We will continue to work on our second to last unit of the year this week. We will be focusing on sentence order, types of sentences, and subject-verb agreement. There will be an open notebook test towards the beginning of next week.
6thGrade Grammar/ Writing:Our unit on the specifics of the English language will continue this week. We will be focusing on punctuation (commas, end punctuation, apostrophes, etc.). These are all of the essential elements that make up a strong writer.
