A Note From Ms. Gurn
This week we are starting our new novel, Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Please make sure your child has this book by Monday morning. Parent/teacher conference sign up sheets will be in the office this week. Please sign up, as these meetings are mandatory for effective communication and progress. Please join us for the Halloween Party this Thursday evening in Neglia Hall from 5:30-7:30- food, games and costumes!
No school/Enrichment Day this FRIDAY. Early Dismissal at 2:00 MON.

This Week In Class
Reading/Writing Workshop: This week we will learn how to make a works cited paged for our persuasive essays, we will finish our second and third body paragraphs, and begin typing our essays in the computer lab. Test Thursday on RW notes.
Spelling/Vocabulary Words: The spelling/vocabulary words will come from our new novel, Wonder. The words this week are: ordinary, extraordinary, cleft, palate, forewarn, precept, plaque, alignment, adjust, contagious, deed, monument, mortality, nauseous, outcome, accommodate, verge, jagged, defect, and catastrophe.
Science: We had a great time at Wood Magic Forest Fair last week! We had 4 hands-on science lessons! This week, we will continue our learning focusing on the different types of plants that can be found in the ecosystem of a forest. Quiz Friday!
Social Studies: We have learned all about U.S. geography and civics. Now, we are entering the history part of social studies. We will begin by studying Westward Expansion. Why were Americans moving West?
Theology: This week we will continue our sacraments unit with the study of the Eucharist, which is at the heart of the Catholic faith. What are the important parts of the Eucharist? What is consecration/transubstantiation? See video below.
4th Grade Social Studies: This week we will finish studying the Southeast and Southwest regions of the United States. Next, we will begin studying the characteristics of the West- California, Oregon, and Washington- here we come! Quiz Thursday on Southeast/Southwest. Students should study their packets in their s.s. folder.
6th Grade Social Studies: This week we will finish our Egyptian unit by studying Egypt’s downfall. Which civilization conquered Egypt? What was Egypt’s relationship with other powerful civilizations such as Rome? Test Friday!
