We have been working on “SELF-HELP-SKILLS” a great deal in class. They are learning to get their own materials, gather their own things, as well as, cleaning up after themselves. A feeling of accomplishment; “I can do it” goes a long way towards building good healthy habits.
The children are learning their colors, numbers and body parts through songs and poems and many other combinations of music and movement activities that lighten the learning atmosphere. To help children learn and express their appreciation for God’s love and gift of life; we use scripture, music, prayer, stories, follow-up discussions, and various other activities.
They will continue to learn and recognize uppercase and lower case letters and their phonetic sounds. Please help them memorize them by using the flash cards that they will bring home every week. Play a game “Beginning Sound” with your child to name things around them that begins with a certain letter sound that they are learning. Let your child practice writing their
first name and the letters that they are learning from school. We will be talking about “Opposites” and reciting and memorizing more Nursery Rhymes. Children will also be working on their Journal Notebooks, painting, coloring, cutting and writing to help with their fine motor skills.
The children are progressing nicely in Mathematics with number recognition, counting accurately and writing numbers. Please encourage your child to practice writing numbers at home. Even if you think your child already knows numbers, it’s important that he/she sees the relationship between the “written number” and the “amount” being counted. We will work more on the concepts of “Same and Different” and will now begin working on objects that are in “Pairs”. We will also introduce “Things that Go Together”, Sorting and Classifying by different attributes like colors, shapes and sizes. Children enjoyed learning their primary colors with a song. Have them sing the Color Songs to you and at the same time reviewing it with them.

1st week “My Smile Is Special” In this lesson, the children take pride in their own smile, given to them by God. Children will learn the uniqueness of
2nd week “My Hands are Special” They will also develop an awareness of the value of having hands and a sense of thankfulness for them. Hands are indeed a marvelous gift from God. Encourage your child to think of all the things for which they use their hands.
3rd week “My Voice Is Special” Children will discover why their voices are very special. No two voices are the same. Our voices are gifts from God that can be used in many different ways. The sound of our voice can help convey our feelings.
4th week “God Made Me” We will be finishing Unit One “God Made Me” for our Religion study. The lessons promote the children’s feelings of happiness and joy for their names, smile, hands, and voices – which are all gifts from God that help contribute toward their self-uniqueness and increase their awareness of themselves and God’s love for them.
