A Note From Mrs. Roy
We have been working hard since our return from Spring Break. This will continue this week as we begin our new novel, The Watsons Go To Birmingham – 1963. This is one of my favorite books, because it ties in one of the most important times in American history. I think the students will love it, too!
In Class This Week
Grammar: We will finish up our unit on adjectives, focusing on specific adjectives and their uses within a sentence. We will finish the week up with an open-notebook quiz.
Spelling: Our words this week come from two roots: miss (to send) and plic (to fold). We will have a test on Friday, and we will spend time this week reviewing it together. Our list of words can be found here.
Reading:We will start The Watsons Go to Birmingham. Before doing so, we will learn some background on what was happening in the United States in 1963. This will give good background knowledge as we begin to learn about the characters and settings in the first four chapters of the book.
Religion: We have started to learn about the Ten Commandments. This week, we will specifically focus on Commandments 1 through 3, all of which relate to the Love of God.
Science: We will learn more about fossil fuels – what they are, where they come from, and how we use them.
5thGrade Grammar/Writing: We will finish our Tall Tales this week and share them with one another. Following this, we will focus on prepositions, prepositional phrases, and how they are used as various parts of speech.
6thGrade Grammar/ Writing:We have started our new unit on Adverbs. This is a quick unit, so we will most likely be finished with it this week!
