A Note From Mrs. Phillips
Our first full week is ahead of us! The students are in for a fun filled and packed week of reviewing from last year and beginning new units. What an exciting time to be a third grader!
I look forward to seeing each family on Tuesday evening at our Back to School Night. Please be sure to find a baby sitter for your children, as this is a parent only event. It will begin at 6:30 in Neglia Hall.
In class this week…
Religion: In religion this week, the class will discuss the parts of the Mass and proper Mass etiquette. We will practice Mass prayers and procedures at great length.
Reading: The class will work on small reading comprehension lessons this week. I will be assessing each individual student and their reading ability this week and next to ensure they receive the correct reading instruction in class. We are currently using the Fountas and Pinnell Reading Assessment.
Language Arts: The students will begin this year learning how to write a letter. In backpacks on Friday, your student came home with a Friday Letters folder. Each Friday, your child will write you a letter about the week. Over the weekend, it is your homework to write back to them on the back side of that week’s letter. On Monday mornings, they will read your letter! I felt this was a great way to start each week!
Math: We will review concepts from last year and begin place value in class. The school has begun using a new math series, so please be patient as I learn this new series and all it entails.
Science: We will begin the year learning about the Scientific Method and the proper way to complete a science experiment. The class will set up Science Lab Books to be used in class and at home to study from.
Social Studies: The class will begin this year by learning about our South Carolina Regions. As in science, we will set up and use a social studies notebook to be used in class and at home to study from.
