This Week In Class

Reading/Writing Workshop: This week we will read Christmas Mass homilies from priests in the U.S. Our writing workshop will focus on writing substantive, critical responses to these homilies. We will use reflection to guide our writing. Our next novel is pictured to the left. It is called Because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. Please have this book purchased by January 3.

Spelling Words: No spelling words this week. However, we will take a closer look at some Christmas vocabulary words used in the Bible such as census, Emmanuel, nativity, epiphany, magi, frankincense, myrrh, etc.

Science:  This week we will be starting a new unit; physical science. Who is Isaac Newton and what are his laws of motion?

Social Studies:  We will continue to learn about World War I. We will study the series of widespread but unofficial ceasefires along the Western front of WWI around Christmas 1914. Please see the touching video below.

Theology: This week we will be learning about the Birth of Christ through scripture. Why is Luke’s account of the birth of Christ most popular? Luke 2:1-20. Our Advent retreat day will be filled with reflection and Advent day activities.

4th Grade Social Studies:  This week we will learn about the Southern colonies. How did the Triangular Trade start to bring slavery into the U.S.?
