A Note From Mrs. Phillips

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving break. I spent quite a bit of time with several of our students while they performed at the Nutcracker. They did a beautiful job!!

These next few weeks will be long, but they will be packed with lots to do! We will keep in mind we are now in the Advent season and will work on preparing ourselves for Jesus’ birth.

In class this week…

Religion: In religion this week, the class will begin our discussion on Advent. We will combining our reading lessons with our religion lessons since the novel we will be reading is about the Nativity.

Reading: The students will be reading “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” these next few weeks. This is a delightful book about how several children who are dubbed ‘troublemakers’ find God and learn of his story. The students will create their first lapbook of foldables and fun while reading this book. These lapbooks help with fine motor skills as we will be cutting and gluing quite a bit, as well as helping them learn to write in a smaller font size.

Language Arts: The class will continue nouns this week, specificallymore irregular and possessive nouns. Also, our spelling test, focused on words from our novel, will be on Friday, December 13th. This is a two week set of words and the children must also know the definitions of each word. STAR homework due this Friday.

Math:  This week in math, we will work on various forms of addition and subtraction.

Science: We will continue our weather unit! We will learn about weather hazards and how we can prevent damage from them.

Social Studies:  The class will begin our South Carolina regions this week! Each student will be creating a study guide for the regions as we go along.
