Have a wonderful week!

This Week in Class

Religion

This week we will continue our study of the Beatitudes. We will complete the seventh and eighth beatitudes, blessed are peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God, and blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.. For our Catholic students, we will review the vocabulary and spelling of the altar items and Church locations studied with Father Linsky in our initial training. Our next training session will be on Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 10:45-11:45am in the Basilica.

Literature

Due to the inclement weather and class interruptions from last week, we postponed our quiz on chapters 5-7 from The Castle in the Attic. We will now plan to take the quiz on Tuesday, February 11, 2020. Following the quiz, students will study the elements of the fictional fantasy genre. We will also compare the plot structures of known fantasy novels to The Castle in the Attic

English

This week we will focus on summarizing and writing coherent paragraphs that support larger works of writing.

Vocabulary

This week we continue our study of Word Sort 7 with the suffixes -ful, -ous, and -ious. Due to some concerns about definitions, these will be due on Thursday, February 13, 2020 to allow us time to review them appropriately and use them prior to our vocabulary test, which will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2020. The spelling test will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2020. Please remember that all spelling and vocabulary assignments are also handwriting assignments and should be completed in cursive. There are a number of tricky combinations and formations with this week’s list, so please check your student’s work to make sure each word is formed correctly.

Word Sort 7:

If your child has a modified list, please only use words 1-18.

studious, dangerous, humorous, poisonous, wasteful, vigorous, nervous, stressful, famous, wonderful, glorious, marvelous, cheerful, furious, outrageous, shameful, boastful, beautiful, successful, mountainous, envious, courageous, delightful, rebellious, scandalous

Mathematics

Again, due to schedule interruptions and inclement weather, we were unable to progress as scheduled for Math. This week we will work on Lessons 43-45. These lessons will focus on adding and subtracting decimals, multiplying one-digit numbers with two-digit numbers, and learning how to name and notate line segments. Once complete, we will prepare for our Cumulative Test #8 and Power Up Test #8. These tests are currently planned to take place on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
