GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING THIS WEEK IN FIRST GRADE!!!
Religion: In religion this week, we are discussing Jesus’ resurrection and how he stayed with the Disciples for 40 days after his death. We are learning about how he asked them to share his words throughout the world, and discussing how we can do the same! We continue to reinforce the process of praying the Rosary. We utilize Jesus Calling each day to discuss scripture, and introduce a new Saint daily.
Reading: In Reading we will be working on a story called The Big Race, a work of fantastical fiction. We are working on dipthongs oi and oy. Each morning, our class works on a Orton Gillingham inspired phonics drill intended to target student understanding of specific patterns, as well as learning to segment them and put them together.
Language Arts: (Grammar and Writing): This week in ELA we will be continuing to learn about contractions. We will be reviewing past, present, and future tense verbs. In writing we are working on building complete sentences on our own, and will be utilizing more writing prompts to help initiate free choice writing more frequently. We are working on perfecting our handwriting over the remainder of the school year.
Math: This week in math we will continue to work on two digit addition, particularly with regrouping. A few times a week, our class works on basic math fact recognition (+,-).
Science: This month in science we are working on Light as a source of Energy.
Social Studies: This month in social studies we are beginning our unit on basic United States History- starting with George Washington and the separation of the United States from England.
