This Week in Class
This week we will continue our study of the Beatitudes. I will collect the Religion notebooks to check in on how well the students understand the first four Beatitudes. We will then proceed to cover the fifth beatitude, Blessed are the merciful, for mercy shall be theirs, and the sixth beatitude, blessed are the pure in heart, for they will receive God.
This week we will work on our F&P Testing and continue our study of the novel The Castle in the Attic. I have a class set of these books, so you do not need to buy your child a copy unless you would like to have one for use at home.We will continue reading and exploring how the story is developing. Students will recognize elements of rising action in chapters 5-7 this week as well as covering the points of view of the different characters in the story.
This week we will continue to focus on sentence structure and what constitutes a complete sentence. Students have been struggling with responding in complete sentences for some assignments, so we will review this concept before learning how to create different types of sentences to increase our sentence fluency and variation when we write.
Due to the schedule changes with Catholic Schools week, we will not have a new vocabulary list this week. The next vocabulary list will go out next week.
This week in math we will review Investigation #3 and Lessons 31-35 in our Saxon textbooks. We will take the Power Up and Cumulative Tests #7 on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. The Power Up Test will be on subtraction. We will then have another review day, and students will take the second Benchmark Test on Thursday, January 30, 2020. If time allows on Friday, we will begin our Fourth investigation on finding fractional and decimal equivalents.

This week we will continue our discussion of the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern Colonies. Students will learn how the New England colonies expanded from the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay Colonies and what a town meeting was like.
This week we have our magnet lab testing the effects of magnetic fields on ferrofluids in liquids of different viscosities. We will also wrap up our study of magnets and magnetism. The test for this unit will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Notebooks will also be due on Wednesday.
