A Note from Mrs. Grant

This week is Catholic Schools Week! We will begin the week by leading Morning Prayer. Then, we will have special activities throughout the week to celebrate Catholic schools. Below is the schedule:

Sunday: 9am Mass in the Basilica;

Monday: Morning Prayer, School wide Rosary said at 10am: Kidz in Lidz charity for children with cancer. Students can bring a dollar to participate and wear their favorite hat all day.

Tuesday: Open House from 4pm-6pm

Wednesday: Mass and 1st and 2nd quarter awards ceremony

Thursday: Breakfast treats for parents during morning carpool drop off

Friday: Porkchop Productions will be performing for the students at 9:30am.

Please remember to check the list for your child’s week to be our Snack Shack managers. This week our Snack Shack managers are Camilla and Zion. Snacks and the receipts must be brought in on Monday. Receipts for reimbursement can be brought to Mrs. Davis in the office with a note detailing it is for Snack Shack. Thank you for your support! 

Below is a list of the students who are on Honor Guard this week. If your student is participating, they must stay until the end. Please do not pick them up during car line unless I have been given a note. Thank you for your support!

This Week in Class

5th Grade

Math: We will discuss adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers and the divisibility rules for 3, 6, and 9. Students can use the review games and math videos below to practice math skills by playing fun math games and watching short lessons on math skills.

Math Practice Games

Science: We will continue our unit on human body systems. We will discuss the muscular system and how the skeletal and muscular system work together. There will be a quiz on the skeletal system and the muscular system on Monday, January 27th. Then, we will begin discussing the respiratory system.

6th Grade

Math: We will discuss writing decimal numbers in expanded notation, multiplying decimals mentally by multiples of 10, solving for the circumference of a circle, and subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping. There will be a quiz on these lessons on Friday, January 31st.  

Science: We will continue our animal research paper. Please look over the rubrics, directions, and due dates with your student. Time will be given to complete this in class. If the student needs extra time, they will be asked to finish for homework. The rough draft is due on Thursday, January 30th.

Social Studies: We will be discussing the city states of Athens and Sparta and debating their societies and we will discuss the Persian war. There will be a quiz on Thursday, January 30th that will cover the governments of Ancient Greece.

Religion: We will discuss why the Israelites did not enter Canaan immediately on their Exodus back from Egypt.

Spelling and Vocabulary: The words for our next unit are listed below. The test will be given on Friday, January 31st.
