A Note From Mrs. Phillips
MAP testing will be this week for our class. We will test in math on Monday, Reading on Tuesday, and Language on Friday. After these three tests, we will be done! Yay! All three tests will be in the afternoon, so I highly recommend packing a healthy, full lunch for your child especially these days to help fuel them through the testing.
There will be a PTO meeting this Tuesday at 5:30 and I hope to see you all there!
In class this week…
Religion: In religion this week, the class will learn about the Epiphany and more about the three wise men.
Reading: The class will work on small reading comprehension studies this week. We will not begin a new novel for a few weeks to give the class a break and to work on a several other reading strategies in small groups.
Language Arts: The students will finish plural nouns this week, working with irregular plurals. The students have a new spelling list based on these plural nouns and their test will be this Friday. No vocabulary this week, just spelling concepts. The class will also begin a creative writing piece based on snow using our LEGO sets!
Math: We began MULTIPLICATION!!! If you do not have a set of multiplication flash cards at home, I highly suggest purchasing a set for your child to practice with. The students will come home with a homework packet each day until they have all been completed. These packets MUST stay in their binders so I may look at their progress. Some students will continue multi step multiplication this week, so keep on studying those facts!
Science: We will begin an extensive unit on living things. This unit will continue throughout the rest of the year and we will look at life cycles, inherited and environmental traits, survival adaptations, habitats, and fossils. The class will begin with life cycles and how they are the same and different in various plants and animals.
Social Studies: The class will begin a small unit on our local South Carolina government this week. We will look at the branches of government and who our local law makers are.
