May 30th – June 1st

Dear Parents and Grandparents,

Congratulations to your son or daughter for completing K4.  I’m certain that each of them will be successful in kindergarten.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for a wonderful school year! This class is so special to me, I will always remember this class.

Many parents ask what they can do to keep their child’s skills fresh over the summer. Here are my recommendations:

1. Practice writing first names with lowercase letters (Kelly not KELLY) within three lines (one solid line at the bottom, dotted line in the middle, solid line at the top)
2. Review letter names and their sounds
3. Challenge them to find sight words in books or on labels (the, and, is, he, she, it, etc.)
4. Count items up to 20 (or higher!)
5. READ! Read as many books as you can with your child. Here are some of our class favorites:

-Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin

-Anything by Mo Williams, especially the Elephant & Piggie series

-Caldecott winners (complete list here)

-The Day the Crayons Quit and The Day the Crayons Came Home by Drew Daywalt

-If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff

-Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr.

-Go, Dog. Go! by P.D. Eastman

-The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

-Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes

-Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae

-A House for a Hermit Crab by Eric Carle

-Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL summer, and give your sweet kids a hug from me!
