A Note from Mrs. Ronald

This week on Thursday, we will have our Music Practice for the Spring Music Program on Thursday night at 7pm. Music Practice will be at the USC Band Hall. Please have your child at the USC Band Hall by 6:30 pm that evening. I know the students have been working hard and are excited to show you what they have learned in Music during the Spring Semester!

This Week in Class

Religion

This week we will continue our in depth study of the 7 sacraments of the Catholic Church. This week we will read more bible verses that call for each sacrament and learn the signs, symbols, ministers, and purpose of each sacrament. Our final two sacraments of initiation, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation will be covered this week.

Literature

Students are continuing to do extremely well in their reading groups. This week we will continue reading our novels and journaling about our thoughts to different events in them.

Due to the musical program this week,  Reading Log #5, which focuses upon story sequence for the fiction side and upon overall text structures (chronological, problem solution, etc.) for the non-fiction side; will not be given until Friday, May 10, 2019. It will then be due the following Friday, May 19, 2019.  For help with structures, please see the following video:

English

This week we will continue our unit on verbs. Students have already taken notes and learned how to use being verbs with action verbs in phrases and by themselves. This week we will focus on the different simple tenses of verbs including simple present tense, simple past tense, and future tenses. Along with learning how to use verbs more effectively, they will continue practicing diagramming sentences with direct objects and subject complements.

Also this week we will continue our Unit 2 vocabulary with Word Sort 13. This week we will sort our words into categories, write them twice in cursive in alphabetical order, and define and give the part of speech of each word. The spelling test for word sort 13 is scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2019, and the vocabulary test for word sort 13 is scheduled for Friday, May 17.

Mathematics

This week we will continue our study of chapter 10 and geometry in our textbook. This week we will focus on the polygon shape of the triangle. Students will learn how to differentiate among the various types of triangles and how to classify each. For more information, please watch the following video.

Social Studies

This week we will complete on with our study of the American Revolutionary War. Students have kept timelines of battles, dates and locations, as well as the outcomes, and we will review everything we have learned together in class. Due to schedule interruptions, the test for Chapter 8 has been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Notebooks will be collected at the close of this unit. Science

This week we will continue with our unit on Sound and Light. Students have already been introduced to transverse and longitudinal waves. This week we will research how the human ear receives and transmits the sound signals to the brain.
