A Note From Ms. Gurn
On Friday, grades 1-6 will participate in Field Day. Please make sure your child has a bottle of water, lunchbox, and sunscreen! There will be no school on Monday due to Memorial Day. Please continue to encourage and motivate your child to work hard these next two weeks to finish the year strong. Please see lesson topics that will be presented this week.
This Week In Class
Reading/Writing Workshop: This week we will begin writing a character analysis for our main character in our Fever, Mattie Cook. We will also practice answering in complete sentences using question prompts.
Spelling Words: The spelling/vocabulary words this week will consist of 5th grade sight words, “shun” words, and academic vocabulary. Test this Friday.

Science: This week we will be learning about renewable and nonrenewable resources. How can we help to keep our Earth clean?
Social Studies: This week we will finish learning about Nixon’s presidency. Next, we will learn about Dessert Storm and the United States’ relationships with the Middle East. Quiz Thursday.
Theology: The students must memorize the Nicene Creed by May 29. This week, we will learn about Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. What does the Catchesim say about these different facets of life after death? Quiz Friday.
4th Grade Social Studies: This week we will examine the South’s attempt to keep African Americans at a lower social statues with black code laws. We will discuss how these codes eventually transformed into the Jim Crow laws. Quiz Thursday.
6th Grade Social Studies: This week we will discuss the differences between the Mayan and Incan people. We will also study the amazing Machu Picchu in Peru. Quiz Thursday.
