Great Things are Happening in First Grade!
Weekly Newsletter- November 4-8, 2019
In class this week…
Religion: In religion this week, we are learning stories from the Old Testament such as Naomi and Ruth and Samuel the Prophet. We continue to reinforce the process of praying the Rosary. We utilize Jesus Calling each day to discuss scripture, and introduce a new saint daily.
Reading: The class will spend this week learning about double consonant patterns. We will be reading a story called Jack and the Wolf. We are discussing plot, setting, and characters in a narrative. Students are able to work daily in their differentiated reading groups, and are able to participate and visualize during whole class Read Alouds.
Language Arts: (Grammar and Writing): This week in ELA we will be working on writing the upper and lower cases of “K and L”. We will be reinforcing basic writing strategies like holding our paper and pencil correctly, while sitting up straight with our feet on the floor. We continue to work in our Interactive Notebooks each day, utilizing various prompts to enhance and perfect our writing skills. In grammar, we are reviewing adjectives, nouns, and verbs, and how they all work together to build excitement in our sentences.
Math: We are continuing with skip counting and gathering data to represent frequency. We are continuing to work in differentiated math groups to best engage students on their individual math levels.
Science: We are starting our unit on Parts of Plant, and how plants help keep God’s creation, the Earth, alive and thriving! Our class and second grade will be going on a Leaf Walk at the end of the week!
Social Studies: We are still working on community helpers and citizenship.
