Happy November to you all! It was a pleasure seeing you last Friday. I am looking forward to continuing our journey of academic and spiritual learning together. Thank you all so much for all of the patience, love, and support you’ve shown this year. You are an amazing group, and I am blessed to be able to work with you and  your lovely children.

This Week in Class


This week we will begin our study of Patron Saints in the Catholic Church. We will explore what it means to be a saint and how a Saint may be assigned as a patron saint. Each student will research a specific patron saint, and present a finished the finished project to the class.


This week we will complete our novel study of The One and Only Ivan, and begin our assessment project for the novel.


This week we shall continue to work with the vocabulary from Word Sort 4. We shall practice spelling and using these words correctly in context all week. Our spelling test for these words will be Tuesday, November 6, and the vocabulary test will be Wednesday, November 7.

Word Sort 4: disease, informal, untidy, disrespect, indirect, misbehave, undress, invisible, mistrust, dishonest, insincere, disorder, misspell, uneasy, discourage, misleading, infrequent, unaware, disbelief, misfortune, unknown, unfasten, inexpensive, disconnect.

We will continue to develop our knowledge of the of sentences by learning how to correct run-on sentences and fragments.


This week we continue our study of multiplication. There will be a quiz on multiplying one-digit numbers  with regrouping on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. We will then be moving from one-digit number to two-digit numbers. We will continue to work with numbers that require regrouping. Please practice the times tables up to factors of 9 in order to help develop your student’s fluency with the math.

Social Studies

This week we will continue our unit on the 5 regions in the United States. Last week we explored the Midwestern region’s climate, landforms, important landmarks, and other important features. Students will take a quiz on this region on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. We will then continue our study of the US regions by progressing to the Southwestern Region.


This week we will continue our study of Energy sources in science. Topics explored will include fossil fuels, sources of renewable energy, and the pros and cons of using each type of  energy source.
