A Note From Mrs. Phillips
It is almost Halloween! I hope to see everyone at the PTO Halloween Party on Thursday evening. It is a family event from 5-7 in Neglia Hall and all are invited. Forms went home already, so be sure to get those turned in! Friday is our first Enrichment Day, so if your child needs to attend, be sure to send in the pink sign-up sheet. There is no regular school for students as teachers will be working hard to prepare for the upcoming weeks.
In class this week…
Religion: In religion this week, the class will work on random acts of kindness and how they show God’s love. We will have a special religion lesson on Tuesday, so be sure to ask your child about it! (The video below is a clue!) The class will also learn about the Ten Commandments. There is NO MASS on Wednesday, so dress uniforms are not needed.
Reading: The class will continue reading “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” this week. I have several class copies we can share, but if you would like to provide a copy for your child, that is more welcome. Each student is busily working on comprehension as we go along in this story. We have finally reached the entrance to the factory! This week begins a deeper look into the characters of the story.
Language Arts: The students will continue work on combining sentences to create larger more meaningful sentences. The class will test on subjects and predicates Tuesday. We will also begin nouns! Our spelling test will be next Thursday since we do not have school the next two Fridays. STAR homework will be due this Friday as usual.
Math: The class will test on addition and subtraction on Monday. We will begin rounding on Tuesday and continue through the week with practice.
Science: In science the students will continue our weather unit. We will look more closely at weather hazards and specifically flooding and how it affected us here in Columbia the past few years.
Social Studies: The students will continue learning about the five South Carolina regions this week. The class is completing a study guide on these regions to be use for our eventual test. The students will begin a class project based on these regions this week.
