A Note From Mrs. Roy
The fourth graders did a beautiful job with their MAP testing this past week. It was a long day of testing, and each one of them really took the time to do his or her best. I’m very proud of them for their hard work. These results will help me to become a better teacher and meet each of their needs this year.
Let’s please remember to pray for those affected by both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma.
In Class This Week
Grammar: We will continue to study sentences. Our focus will be on identifying subjects and predicates in every type of sentence.
Spelling: We will be looking at words spelled with ch, th, tch, and wh. We will be doing some practice activities in class, but please make sure your students also study at home. There will be a test on Friday. The words can be found here.
Reading: We will begin The One and Only Ivan this week! I think the students will really like this book. We are going to read it together in class and work on comprehension questions after we read. Our focus this week will be identifying the setting of a story, particularly in our novel.
Religion: We will continue to look at the Catholic Social Teaching principles. We will also look at what we can do as Catholic students to live these principles in our daily lives. We will end the week with graded work showing these principles through artwork. Our virtue of the week is kindness.
Science: We will finish up our unit on the Scientific Method and begin to review for our test, which will be on Tuesday, September 19th. We will also have a graded lab on Thursday – we will finally put the scientific method into action!
5th Grade Grammar/Writing: Our unit on nouns continues as we focus on possessive nouns and collective nouns. There will be a quiz on Friday. Students should study Lessons 1.1-1.5 from their textbooks, along with notes from their Grammar notebook. We will do activities from the workbook to help them prepare for this quiz.
6th Grade Grammar/ Writing: Our unit on sentences continues as we review simple and compound sentences. We will get some new material about natural and inverted order. There will be a quiz on Friday. Students should study Lessons 6.1-16.5 from their textbooks, along with notes from their Grammar notebook. We will do activities from the workbook to help them prepare for this quiz.
