A Note from Mrs. Ronald

I hope you had a safe weekend! We will continue to offer prayers for all those affected by Hurricane Florence.  Due to weather delays and MAP testing, we did not accomplish everything we had scheduled las week, so we are going to try again! Our final MAP test is on Monday, September 17. Please make sure your child gets to school on time, receives plenty of rest and has a good breakfast each day so each may focus during the testing. Also, we are a thirsty class!  Please make sure your child has a water bottle  each day to help him or her remain hydrated.

This Week in Class

Religion

This week we will focus on developing an in-depth knowledge of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church. We will begin with the life and dignity of the human person. We will participate in group activities and discussions that best help the students understand what this means and how we may best practice it.

Literature

This week we will continue our novel study of The One and Only Ivan. Students will be expected to read and take notes on the text as homework and be prepared to discuss the chapters in class the next day. We will be using active reading and Socratic seminars to develop our understanding of the text.

English

This week we are finally getting around to taking our test for our anti-bullying spelling and vocabulary unit. This will take place on Tuesday, September 18. On Wednesday, September  19, we will begin a new vocabulary and spelling unit using word sorts. Our focus this week will be on comparative and superlative suffixes. (-er, -est, y to i +er, y to i + est)

We will also continue to develop our knowledge of the different types of sentences. These include declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory. Students will take a quiz on Thursday, September 20, 2018 to demonstrate their knowledge of each type of sentence.

Mathematics

We will continue to review place value, rounding to specific place values, and estimating whole numbers and monetary values.

Social Studies

This week we will continue to study world geography and map skills. Our focus will continue for longitude and latitude and include our study of natural resources in preparation for our field trip to Wood Magic Forest Fair.

Science

This week we will continue to explore the elements of an experiment  in order to familiarize ourselves with the steps taken by scientists for scientific inquiry.
