A Note From Mrs. Phillips
The Lord has done it this very day;
let us rejoice today and be glad. Psalm 118:24
I say we rejoice in the weekend! What a beautiful one God has sent us! I hope everyone was able to relax and enjoy, but most of all spend time together. The first few weeks of school can be hectic and seem like a marathon, but these are the times we must turn to Him and put our families first.
On Tuesday, your child will be participating in the first session of our school wide MAP testing. We will only be testing on Tuesday if all goes well. Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest Monday night and a great breakfast on Tuesday morning. The testing will be completed on our school iPads and the results will be used to ensure your child will receive the best possible individual instruction in the classroom. Due to testing, there will NOT be a spelling list this week and instruction has been shortened to three days.
In Class This Week…
Religion: In religion this week, we will continue to discuss Abraham and Issac and their relationship with God.
Reading: The class will start learning about Roald Dahl, the author of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. This will be the beginning of our first novel study.
Language Arts: This week, the class will continue learning about the different types of sentences and what makes up a great third grade sentence. There will not be a spelling list this week due to testing and the short week. STAR homework is still expected to be turned in with the minutes read and Xtramath completed.
Math: The class was unable to quiz on Friday, so we will have a short quiz on Tuesday or Wednesday. We will then begin the concept of rounding. If you have not already signed up for your Xtramath at home account, please do so this week. You can visit www.xtramath.org to set that up.
Science: The class will learn the steps to the Scientific Method and put them into action!
Social Studies: In Social Studies, the students will continue to learn about the five regions of South Carolina. each student will have a study guide they will fill out in class.
